Huge egg!

I am looking after a friend's chickens this week while she is on holiday. This morning we collected 4 eggs and one of them was huge, about twice the size of a normal large egg. I have seen a 'double yoker' before which my friend once gave me, but this one is a real super sized egg.

I just thought a chicken expert might be able to tell me why this egg is so large.

PS. I have just weighed it and it weighs 118g.

We've had that a couple of times - once there was another egg inside (a bit like a Kinder Surprise!) and the other time it was just huge!

How old are the chickens emanon? My older chooks lay some whoppers when they first start up again after they have been off lay.

My Sassos have been laying for just over a month now and many of their eggs are double yokers although average size.

I've not had a double yolker yet

Had a few bloomin' massive eggs though but when I've used them, the yolks are not much bigger than normal sized eggs!

Is the phptp still on my profile, I will have to check it? Anyway you can get triple yolkers if it isnt there.

Have you cracked it?

I had a large egg once, when i cracked it, inside was a tiny, perfectly formed egg. (a egg inside an egg)

had a large egg from my one layer, it was twice the size of the other eggs she lays, and it was a double yolker!! Today i have two of the three hens laying! hoping the third will start soon as have had them for three months. kids are arguing over who will have a boiled egg for breaky.
