I thought 1 egg a day was the limit, or have the cats learnt a new trick?

Isn't the egg cycle of a chicken something like 23.9 hours? So every now and then a hen may lay 2 eggs in a day.

It's not especially good for them to lay 2 eggs/day if it's frequent as they will wear themselves out and die young .

If it's a regular occurence you might want to restrict food a bit to try and slow them down.

Everything seems to have settled down now! All 4 are laying and we are getting 4 a day. The new layers eggs are so cute and our black rock today laid an egg as big as a lemon! Thanks for your suggestions, I'll watch the food rations, though they free range most of the time and are curremtly fighting over slugs
