But don't tell DH

I have given up trying to unbroody her so have slipped 5 eggs from my rescue hens and Alastair the Light Sussex.

Atleast I will find out if Al is performing.

yay for cute little chickies

Let's hope Lulu gets a proper hatch all of her own this time!

The same day as my mother hen left her chicks and went back in the henhouse, her identical sister sat herself down in the nestbox and savaged anyone that went near her. She's only on 4 eggs (I wore thick suede gardening gauntlets to lift her off yesterday!).

How long till the lucky Lulu is a momma ?clueless as chicken husbandry goes but love the idea of keeping them

OldGregg · 06/08/2008 23:08

Chicken eggs take a mere 21 days to hatch. (Mind you, the hen has to sit on them constantly, with only one short daily break to eat, drink and poo)!!!

Hope Lulu manages to do it!

Hatch day should be 27/28th August. They are big eggs, she is sitting on 5. This will be her third attempt. Her last lot were fully formed in the shell but didn't hatch. That late snow didn't help.
