The stubborn man has made this and although its not what I want, I think it'll be oki til I can save for a eglu cube? He's putting a raised house to approx 1/2 up the last brick on the wall and we're probably going to put auboise down in the run, and free range em as much as poss in the garden. This is for baby chicks, and for housing any silkie bantams that hatch. The baby chicks, when gronw, will be moving to the 11.5ft x 6.ft + shed set up at my grandmothers.

Forgot to say, the house will be going on the grass, so will be adding another x amount of length, an the dog is in the pic because he's a nosy git for scale

That'll do fine for chicks to start with though may need enlarging as they get bigger but not if you have them out free-range a lot. I have 9 six week old chicks in a 1m x 2.5m pen and they're OK for space (but I'm not free-ranging them yet because they're too flighty and stupid).

Btw, I had our chicks housed in a low rabbit hutch and we've had a rat trying to get underneath - they do like eating chicks, bloody things. So I've raised the hutch on slabs and it's been fine. If you can easily see underneath the house it'll be OK but otherwise you can either staple a sheet of wire mesh to the bottom of the house or put it on slabs.

How long til hatching?

a long 16 days!!

The house is gonna be above the ground enough for them to sit under (apparently..) so hopefully we'll be ok. I've started an eglu cube fund for the silkies
