Aren't Maran's grey?

ingles2 · 24/06/2008 22:22

nah... my marans are brown with white splodges

ladytophamhatt · 24/06/2008 22:23

Well I'm guessing that would be a French Copper Maran rather than a Cuckoo Maran which are definetly grey.

ladytophamhatt · 24/06/2008 22:23

you're maiing it up, aren't you SKSS??

On the omlet website they have this description;

"The majority of the Marans we see today in the UK are cuckoo coloured, ranging from a very dark grey colour down to silver"

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/06/2008 22:26

Hey - I know my chickens

ingles2 · 24/06/2008 22:26

my marans look exactly like the one pictured here
but the bluebelles markings are very similar so maybe it is a x

tortoiseSHELL · 24/06/2008 22:28

Yep, MaranxRIR

ingles2 · 24/06/2008 22:30

my lovely brown maran is on my profile

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/06/2008 22:31

They have French Wheaten marans on that website as well as an cuckoo maran. I have to say I've never seen a cuckoo maran looke that black and white and that photo looks more like a barred Plymouth Rock to me.

Grey maran here

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/06/2008 22:33

No, defintely a spaniel you've got there.

ingles2 · 24/06/2008 22:33

that cuckoo maran doesn't look like any maran I've ever seen!

ingles2 · 24/06/2008 22:34

ROFL

ingles2 · 24/06/2008 22:41

you know I think the lacing on that cuckoo maran looks more like a wyandotte. My marans are much splodgier

ladytophamhatt · 25/06/2008 12:46

you're all baffling me with all these technical chicken terms.

Hi, don't know how old this thread is as I've just joined, but I can confirm that the Maran in question is a copper blue. They come in lots of different colours - french cuckoo (gray and white stripes), copper black (black with a copper colour round the neck), copper blue (same as copper black, but the black is replaced by a bluey grey colour), french wheaton (a lovely creamy brown colour). Hope this helps clear up this question for all of you chickeny people out there
