Chicken eating a dead mouse?

Ahem, well I am not actually a chicken keeper but today DD and I were at a city farm and a chicken was carrying a dead mouse about and occasionally tossing it down and pecking at it. Was just wondering if this was utterly freakish...
(also probably only ever chance to post in this topic)

Not particularly freakish, ours occasionally do that if they find one left by the cats. I've never seen them actually track one down and kill it - don't think they'd be fast enough!

I've heard that chickens do eat dead mice, but they are at risk of botulism I think!

Ah, interesting, thanks for responding - DD is fairly obsessed by the chickens so feel ought to self-educate a bit about chickeniness...

When I was little we had neighbors with chickens. The stupid twats would put their leftover KFC chicken in the chicken coop for the chickens.

Vom at the chickens eating KFC OMDB! The mouse thing was very odd - it was like the chicken wasn't clever enough to know it couldn't really eat the mouse. DD was enchanted and kept talking about "Chicken gotta mouse"...
