I have ordered an eglu cube with 2m run not coming till 11th July and i am almost bursting with excitment, it says that it is for 6 chooks but how many would you recommend would be happy in it?
I have already got people who want to buy eggs every week so hopefully will pay for there food that way. www.omlet.co.uk/products_services/products_services.php?view=Eglu%20Cube
That one, i know you all know what it is but i like doing links.
They will probably not be free ranging at all so it is the house and the run only.

I would just get 3 chickens for now, partly to see how you get on in practice, but also to take into account the fact that generally hens slow down with laying a bit as they get older. If you just get a few now then you can 'top-up' with a few more in a year or two as yours get older so you'll always have enough eggs.

I will let them put for part of the day, I am around all day with minded children and three Burmese cats!

We started with a 4ft x 9ft house and run and had 4 ex-batts in it but they didn't look like they had much room so we got some netting to fence off areas of the garden and let them free range as much as poss. We then got 2 more girls and an eglu with standard run but it looked like a bit of a prison (although the eglu itself if fab). Now I have got hubby to build an additional 9ft X 9ft run for them and they still get to roam most of the day. However much space you give them they will always want more!
