Saw NappiesGalore's chickens yesterday....

I want some

They're lovely

Flameboy adored them and was handing out food as soon as he got in there (ok, they may have preferred it in the pots...). Then he stood with grain in his hand and let them peck at him They looked a tad concerned when he had em pinned down by the bum to stroke them

'snot fair.

Why can you not?

cluttercup · 29/04/2008 07:53

...not that I'm trying to encourage you but I love mine! However I'm willing to do shared care if you live in the south east!!!!

Flame · 29/04/2008 07:59

Not a very big garden, that is well populated by foxes at night Tis not a bright idea

I'm south south if that helps Clutter Takes me 50 mins to get to NG to harass her chooks.

We have foxes...tis possible to be fairly fox proof!Mind you we've only had chickens 4 weeks so they could get eaten yet I suppose!

That makes me feel a bit better thanks!

Oops...sorry about your chickens though...

We made our run out of chiken wire then reinforced it with weld mesh when someone told us about the fox biting through.

It's only stapled...perhaps we need to bang some of those clippy things in.
Thanks riven.

Our run is home made and fox proof - and doesn't take too much space - so a large garden REALLY isn't necessary! And we have LOADS and LOADS of foxes - I saw 3 in the garden together the other afternoon!

Flame - I want chickens too.....
have started by buying a book with lovely pics of chicks in, hope that will keep me going for a while.
Don't really know whats holding me back from going for it, but I want to be sure, also have grumpy old man next door who I don't want to upset.

debbiedlemur · 29/04/2008 20:00

We have a grumpy old man too but he has been surprisingly ok about the chickens. We haven't even had to bribe him with eggs yet. You could maybe get a second hand eglu with the extension run (still expensive I know) but you could fit two in there. Keep up the nagging of your OH, you will get there in the end.
