I have a broody hen and am very excited.

Ideally I want speckled sussex or wyandotte eggs - large fowl. So far can only find bantam eggs.

Have found some speckled sussex eggs but the woman wants to wait for a cheqe to clear. God why can't she do Paypal. My hen won't still be broody. Grrrrrrrr.

If anyone knows anywhere that sells them can you please advise - thanks.

Where abouts are you stripey? I can check out the PP forum for you.

If she's anything like my broody she'll stay broody for awhile.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 14/04/2008 21:06

Thanks - I've asked on PP already and only been offerred bantams.

I'm in Lincoln - last time she only stayed broody for 2 weeks nearly to the day, though I admit I believe I kept poking her off as it was January

I'm in Lincs.

Meant to say - she's a black rock so not sure she will be a good broody as she's not meant to go broody at all. However she must be making up for my Silkie who has never gone broody.

I got lucky with PP forum when looking for Dorkings.

My wyandotte is the one that is broody so she isn't laying.

I have maran x light sussex or speckeldy x light sussex if they are any good to you.

We had a super broody black rock. They are not meant to be broody at all but Patty was one of oiur first chooks and she hatched 4 batches of chicks in the years we had her. My current black rock when broody last summer too.

Thanks, but no. I think if I can't get what I want this time I'll wait and see if she goes broody again in a couple of months time and try then.

Hope she does. I find with mine that they go broody several times if I try and stop them.

Ebay sells fertilised eggs - I have hatched Barbu's under a broody this way.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 15/04/2008 09:50

Have you tried P & T Poultrys online site? Some of the reputed 'dodgy' ebay eggs are from recognised dealers so it's worth having a look - I was googling for Araucana eggs yesterday and could only find them on ebay, but I did recognise the sellers companies.

Well I got some buff sussex eggs todaay - have been and piced them up. Came back to find my broody hen running round the garden.

Think I may be having an expensive omlette..

Can you put china or other eggs in the nest and see if you can tempt her back in?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/04/2008 17:06

She's gone back in - think I must have got home just as she decided to stretch her legs/get some food. Fingers crossed.

Excellent stripey - hope she sits. Still nothing from Lulu's eggs. I am biting my nails and pacing here.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/04/2008 17:30

How many days has it been?

Any cheeping?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 16/04/2008 22:38

Well I put my eggs under her this morning and she's still sitting. Have put her in a broody ark by herself - hopefully 3 weeks today there will be chicks!
