So are fish. Get back to your pond.

KatyMac · 21/03/2008 21:16

In my house they are a supplier of food & thus treated with repect

MehgaLegs · 21/03/2008 21:17

You still haven't quite got the typing style have you?

My chcikens are both.

collision · 21/03/2008 21:22

just eat 'em........

Monkeytrousers · 21/03/2008 21:24

Erm, no.

They are fab for soil fertiliser! And eggs!

And school photo projects - 'here is Quonk with the chickens'

and for eating scraps

and for escaping and keeping one healthy

Monkeytrousers · 21/03/2008 21:25

but I never cuddle up with them

so maybe you;re technically right - they are not pets, no...

But even Vic Reeves has them.

Anarkids · 21/03/2008 21:26

Are you a namechanger or new?

Only people are likely to think you are Cod, unless of course that's what you were hoping..

rebelmum1 · 21/03/2008 21:28

there does seem to be alot of chickens about mumsnet, do you eat them or just keep them for eggs? Don't they wreck the garden or do you have eggloos? i have a local organic supplier for mine.

Desiderata · 21/03/2008 21:30

You're not Cod. Why are you pretending to be Cod?

Anarkids · 21/03/2008 21:31

Alright Des?

Realised I've posted under a namechange oops.

Question still stands though.

madamez · 21/03/2008 21:32

Well they are food machines ie they produce eggs and when they stop doing so they can be roasted. They are also good waste disposals, or so I hear. I don't have any, as no space and waaaay too many cats and foxes round here (and I really couldn't be arsed anyway).

Oi codalike, if you're going to imitate cod, try not being so obvious, your spelling mistakes are way too studied and your syntax is all wrong.

Desiderata · 21/03/2008 21:36
Anarkids · 21/03/2008 21:39

perhaps we should set up an anti-pedantry crevice, and install cod lessons.

Well she already does sex and geography why not chuck in a bit of typing 101

aefondkiss · 21/03/2008 21:41

cod said she was going to hide this topic, so it can't be cod.

BoysOnToast · 21/03/2008 21:45

well... layers are for eggs, so they are kept and loved for this reason. (when they stop laying they are usually too old fer eating but go into a respected retirement nonetheless, what with time served an all that)

then unnecessary male chickens (coz you cant have too many, and this only stands if you hatch your own - you obv wouldnt buy males you dont want) you fatten up to 20weeks and then, yup, eat em!

win-win innit

tortoiseSHELL · 21/03/2008 21:51

That is why we needed a separate topic from pets. Because they are 'working' animals, even though they're well loved and some of our chickens (though not mine, am too wussy) will end up in the oven.

ska · 22/03/2008 09:36

mine are both and they are also so much more cuddly than fish - which i hate

BoysOnToast · 22/03/2008 10:09

i have fish too. im not intending to eat them though!

Flamesparrow · 22/03/2008 15:50

BOT Stalking again... if you're about this evening at all then a chat would be maaaaaaaaaaaaarvellous. DH has the tv all night, so I will most likely be sat here

BoysOnToast · 22/03/2008 16:00

great - will (barring disasters) chat then, then
