Bantam with Large Fowl?

I’ve just lost one of my two remaining girls, so am looking to rebuild the flock. Lone girl is a quiet, docile barnevelder, living in a 6ft x 15ft walk in run, no free ranging at the moment. I’m thinking of adding in 1 or 2 more standard size birds and maybe a couple of pekin bantams. Has anyone introduced pekins to a resident LF? Are they generally ok together? LF I’m looking at are Houdan, which are supposed to be fairly gentle birds. Does this sound like it should work? I have two coops available for them should they not want to share initially!

Mine have generally been OK together. The only dynamic that doesn't seem to work, in my experience, is LF rooster amongst banties. Banty rooster got on fine with the mix of LF and banty.

No roosters here, so that won’t be an issue! Good to hear yours got on well 🙂

I've seen mixes work where they've had options for taking space away from each other when wanted.

I've only just seen this, so might be too late, however thought I'd respond to say that I keep pekin bantam and large fowl together. I'd introduce at least 2 birds at a time for company/being able to "flock together"... I tend to find that the large/small birds seek the company of their own kind, but they do live happily as a group. I'd make sure there are plenty of hidey holes and perches so that the bantams can escape the large fowl if/when they want.

Thanks for replies. I’ve added four new ladies, three bantams (pekin, faverolle and sablepoot) and a LF Polish. Unfortunately my “docile” barnie has really taken against the Polish and is in a separate enclosure within the run for now. It’s been 2 weeks and I tried letting her out yesterday and she instantly attacked the polish again, ripping head feathers out, the poor thing was screaming 😞So looking to extend the run and have a permanent divider so they have their own space. Not ideal, and I’m still hoping she might come around, but not looking good right now. Pic of Polish because she’s just comical!

Just to add, hidey holes wouldn’t work for the polish as she seems kind of stupid and just sits there shrieking when she’s being attacked, rather than running away!
