Ex-batts

I have kept chickens on and off for years and I'm feeling 'broody' again. I haven't had much luck with keeping ex-battery hens before but thinking of trying again. The ones I rehomed all died within about 6 months. My purebreeds and hybrids lived happily for years.
What extra considerations are there for ex-batts that I have missed the first time? My other hens just had standard layer's pellets, grit and didn't need much else.

Hi, a late reply! :)

I don't really know the answer to your question, but I know someone who does:
