Just been out to see our 2 chickens who are penned in because of avian flu alert. In their normal life they are free range in the garden all day every day and I’m starting to worry that we won’t get back to that. They have a big , head height, pen so it be worse but if I were allowed to choose I would much rather give them a potentially shorter, but better life, than keep them penned in. The pleasure for us ( they rarely lay and don’t like being handled) is seeing them pootle around having a lovely time. I won’t be getting any more when these two die because it’s so depressing having them locked away.
