Injured duck - advice

Hello,

We’ve kept chicken and ducks for quite a while, however they’ve always been really healthy. So any advice if you’ve experienced anything similar would be greatly appreciated.

We bought 3 runner ducks from an agricultural show yesterday. However one of them has a bad leg. It doesn’t want to put any weight on it, though it is eating and hobbling as best it can. We’ll try and find an appropriate vet if it doesn’t get better in a few days (I hope it’s just a sprain) but it looks like the joint is quite swollen. Hard to capture but it’s the left leg in the pic).

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Can offer any advice? I really just don’t know what to do to help the poor thing.

Is she able to get around and eat ok? We had a chicken who became suddenly very lame and after consulting with the vet (video call, first lockdown), we put her down at home. Ours was so lame she didn't want to leave the house and the vet felt it would be a fracture or similar which wouldn't really be fair to treat.
One thing the vet did mention is that they are prey animals so have evolved to hide pain and lameness as much as possible as it makes them so vulnerable. If they show they're suffering it must be pretty bad.
In your case I'd suspect rough or careless handling at the show - but I'd get to a vet sooner rather than later.

Do you know how old the ducks are?

I hatched 3 duckling, eggs from Sainsburys 28 days in an incubator and bingo

One started to go lame, weight bare and standing up was difficult, researched and it could be a vitamin issues so purchased in power form Nicotinamide B3, added to water and food and it did the trick

Sorry typo - Powder form B3

I agree with iloverunningslow about not waiting and getting checked out by vet asap. Good luck getting sorted.
