Moulting.

Our 18 month old Andalusian is moulting for the first time. She looks so sorry for herself but isn’t off her food. Do you have any ideas about how to make her more comfortable? I’m feeding her tuna to increase her protein.

I’ve got two moulting. They are not laying but otherwise looking perky enough. The new feathers grow through surprisingly quickly.

How is your hen doing now?

You don’t have to do anything. It’s normal. Don’t worry about her.

such a stupid time to do it though! does anyone know why they do it just when the cold weather comes?

It can happen at any time of the year!

Glad I saw this as I have one exactly the same. She must be so cold. She looks so threadbare too.
