Last summer I added six ex batts to our remaining couple. However we ended up with a rat problem (they were eating the eggs and living in the walls of the wooden stables, chewing to the extent that the structure was at risk. We’ve had hens for 10yrs but never had a problem previously. Even with the help of a pest control guy we couldn’t shift them, so sadly we decided to rehome them. I was gutted that they’d just settled properly (6 months with us) but found a lovely lady who had 10 other hens in a huge enclosure who would have them. I can see the hens from the rd when I drive past, and they’re settled in fine and looked happy (been there a few months now). This week some shitbag broke into the coops during the night and stole all 18 hens. I’m gutted for the hens.

That's really shit and sad 😢 sorry to read that- I dislike people more and more by the day
I hope for the hens sake it was quick and they haven't suffered xx

I hope so too. I hope they were killed while still half asleep and didn’t realise. I just feel bad that I sent them there because it’s happened once before a few years ago, all the lady’s hens were stolen. Poor lady, she adores her hens too. I guess it’s just too close to a main rd. but it’s still shocking what people will do nowadays.
