Jackdaw help please

Sorry I had no idea where else to post this. I had to rescue a baby jackdaw from my DP's back yard/garden. It was obviously unable to fly and I first assumed it had a damaged wing but now I think it may just be very young and not able to fly properly.
I KNOW not to pick up fledglings and I wouldn't normally but whilst watching it (I had another duty I was carrying out there but it's a bit outing) I noticed 2 rats sort of circling it then next doors cat appeared and I couldn't help but pick it up!
So now, what do I feed it, how long should I keep it before releasing it and any advice on how to give it the best chance possible please?
It is currently in my cat basket in my garage with water, whiskers wet pouch and a few meal worms but doesn't seem to like any of these things.
I cannot bear the thought of releasing it back to the yard where it fell and what is bound to be a death sentence.
Does anyone know if a large rat would kill a baby jackdaw that was struggling? It certainly seemed to be in danger from them!
I am more than happy to care for it for however long it takes for it to be able to fly. I just need some advice on what would be best for him (jack) or her (DAWris)
