What is wrong with this chicken?

My neighbour's chicken is waddling quite badly with her bottom almost touching the ground. Is she "eggbound" and what does that mean? Is there anything that can be done for her? We think she's quite old but not exactly sure of her age.

Eggbound means an egg is stuck in her. Has she been at this long? One of ours got peritonitis which caused her to waddle like a penguin. In both cases we brought them to a vet. I didn't know enough to do something myself. The eggbound one was ok. The other one put down.

Both are pretty serious if untreated but being egg bound is more acute.

Thanks for your replies pebble. I'll pass it on to my neighbour. So if she's eggbound, the vet can cure her?

Poor thing. My aunt lost two hens who were egg bound. Call the vets.

Pebblespony · 17/05/2018 23:29

An egg bound hen can be saved if the egg is removed quickly.

Thank you. I have passed the message on to my neighbour
