I have been wanting Chickens for years after looking after my neighbours when they where away and they went away every other weekend and and finally we have our own home. So I hunted for a second hand coop, as I can't afford a new one. We found one and whilst their the owner said that he had just had 2 chicks Would I like to take them. We decided to take them but on the back foot to be honest. We have no idea if these are girls and as the purpose is not just pets but providers of eggs and no guarantees they are ladies I don't know if it would be a bad idea to buy 2 point of lays as well? (coop information states 5 chickens but reviews all say 3/4) this is because we could wait months and find out we have 1 or 2 boys and we would need to buy point of lay anyway. Can we do this with the chicks already insitu? The breed is buff Orpington is that makes any difference.

Also any suggestions of other breeds that would go well with them.
