So I have decided to get some chickens for my suburban garden. The one question I keep coming across is making sure it's legal in my area.

How do I find this out? I don't have a copy of title deeds to my house (freehold), and I'm not sure who in the council I should contact? Can anyone tell me who they checked with, if anyone?

You can get your deeds for £3 from the land registry website. If there's nothing on there then I don't think you need to check with anyone else.

There's actually a law (dating back to the days of rationing I think) that says you're allowed to keep chickens as long as there aren't any local bylaws specifically prohibiting it Smile
