1 chicken or 2?

Hello, we have 2 hens (having lost the 3rd to a fox before Christmas) - one of whom is a miraculous survivor of fox attack. They are very sweet and hang out together all the time, trot around the garden in a pair. We would like to get another, but not sure if one would be OK, or whether two would be better. 4 would be maximum for the house we have, and the space, and when we had 4 (before they all got killed too SadAngry) we found they were pretty mucky and had too be cleaned out every 3-4 days.

You'd need another two. Would be very unfair to introduce a single chicken to an established pair.
