Do your chickens ever catch mice?

We have 12 chickens and one of them has taken a penchant to catching and pecking at the odd mouse. She hangs out in the storage barn on her own, waiting for mice, and often chums around with the cat. Never heard of this bfore but is it normal behaviour?

Mine have caught a baby rat and eaten it and they're partial to any frogs that hop their way into the chicken pen. I think they'll pretty much eat anything they can if it comes within beak range. Hmm

Yep, same here.

Watching two chickens, with a frogs leg each, squabbling over it is a sight to behold. And not for the squeamish.

Good to know, poor frogs though!

Baby rat and frog here. I tried to save the frog, but I ended up shut in the chicken run with frog and the chickens baying for blood outside. Damn frog decided to risk the chickens rather than stay with me. They pecked the eyes out of the baby rat.

My kitten however sleeps with the chickens with no recourse.
When it's cold outside and I've shut him out while we eat, he'll go and curl up with them.. They haven't eaten him yet. Grin

I think my cats leave mice for them tbh, and they fought over a frog with gusto.

My childhood chickens would hang out while dad was turning over the muck heap in anticipation of a rat/mouse nest being revealed so they could eat the babies. They also queued up while the goats were having their hooves trimmed to run off with the offcuts

no but I have seen the tiny cockerel chasing a rat.
