Do your chickens like kitchen scraps?

We got some new hens a few days ago having not had any for a few months (fox attack when we forgot to shut them in one night Sad). They are point of lay.

All the previous hens we've had (mostly but not exclusively ex-batts) used to rush to the gate when they saw us coming and then devour their scraps (baked beans, bits of pancake, cereal etc). The first hens we had used to be out in the garden and would try and jump on the table when we ate outside. These new hens just ignore their scraps. It seems very strange! Maybe they just like pellets. Probably healthier for them but with two wasteful children I had been hoping to put less in landfill.

Yes my hens would eat everything! I thought they all did. Strange
Ours got their throats gouged out by a fox too. Was terribly upsetting Hmm

they will get used to it

ours are the same and rush to the big pen if they see anyone come out of the gate....I feel guilty if I am just going to the recycling bin

boil some spaghetti for them! ...my girls love it!

I'm sure DD will have some spaghetti soon and not manage it all so I will try that. Maybe they'll get a taste for leftovers when they've settled down.
