We got some new hens a few days ago having not had any for a few months (fox attack when we forgot to shut them in one night
). They are point of lay.
All the previous hens we've had (mostly but not exclusively ex-batts) used to rush to the gate when they saw us coming and then devour their scraps (baked beans, bits of pancake, cereal etc). The first hens we had used to be out in the garden and would try and jump on the table when we ate outside. These new hens just ignore their scraps. It seems very strange! Maybe they just like pellets. Probably healthier for them but with two wasteful children I had been hoping to put less in landfill.
