None. The first whiff of Autumn and they stopped. Although our newest addition, a silkie, might be a boy, which would explain matters (I'd heard Silkies often lay, or start to lay, in winter).

One of mine has just started laying again after nothing all summer from any of them. Confused
If they weren't so cute they'd be in the slow cooker.

Chasingsquirrels · 02/12/2014 17:20

I was down to 1 out of 4 a couple of months ago for a few weeks.
Then back up to 3 out of 4 for a month or so.
Last couple of weeks have been 2 out of 4 but I'm not sure it's the same 2 - 1 is laying every day, 2 may be taking turns and 1 definitely isn't laying at all.

Non-layer is a few years old, others were POL in March this year.

lilacunicorn · 02/12/2014 17:22

Our feathery crossbreeds only ever lay if they feel like it, & then often go immediately broody!

The ex batts are still going strong, I think it's their way of saying "thanks" Wink in fact we are slightly over-run with eggs (unheard of in pre ex-batt years) - sorry not meaning to sound gloaty!!

Pixel · 04/12/2014 19:16

Mine all laid right through their first winter just to lull me into a false sense of security. I've no idea which one of them is laying THE egg as the others seem to disappear inside the coop to take the credit supervise.

babyfedleaning · 04/12/2014 19:20

First winter here and I am getting 3 or 4 eggs a day from the 4 of them. Does this mean next year I shouldn't expect too much?

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/12/2014 19:26

Ours are on strike
We have 10
I retired welsammer (sp ) known as mother hen
2 amarula ( should be laying blue shelled eggs )
2 warren
2 black rock
1 white Sussex
And 2 ex "free range "
3 a day on a good day
As I feed them I say " girls , these are LAYERS pellets , so lay some eggs "

CMOTDibbler · 04/12/2014 19:30

Mine aren't laying - one welsummer, 2 golden legbars

Chasingsquirrels · 05/12/2014 11:51

My best layer is my White Leghorn, she was POL in Mar 14 and had a couple of weeks off in Sep but other than than has been pretty consistently one a day, maybe missing one day a month.

SunnyBaudelaire · 05/12/2014 11:55

only one of my ten brown hens that is still laying, bless her.

pigsinmud · 09/12/2014 09:19

I have 3 hens and in October I thought they'd given up for winter, but they were just on a break. So some days I get 3, but on average I'd say 2. So 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Grin

clownumbrella · 10/12/2014 21:00

I have 6 girls - I was getting 6 eggs every day - this has recently dropped to 5.

My white leghorn is the champion layer - she hasn't missed a day yet, bless her!

OodKingWenceslas · 10/12/2014 21:12

3/7 approx a day.

All ex batts.

Droflove · 11/12/2014 15:03

I have 3 hens and have had 3 eggs a day every day since I got them in September. Not a single egg missed. But here is the weird thing! I got 4 eggs the last 3 days in a row! Now that is efficient. My super-hens!

SunnyBaudelaire · 11/12/2014 15:04

I have ten ex batt brown hens and none of them are laying now

Sparky05 · 15/12/2014 21:45

Both ex bats are laying nicelyGrin the silkie has stopped but she's a frail old thing and normally goes on strike when the weather gets nippy. Both orphingtons lay very heavily all winter long which is great bcause with the amount if baking we get through we need as many eggs as possible!Hmm
Our Plymouth Rock lays when she feels like it on and off

Onthemountain · 21/12/2014 18:17

I've got 5 hens and having 3 eggs daily.

OodKingWenceslas · 21/12/2014 18:27

We are now down to 2/6
Lost a hen last week, very sudden but didn't appear to be suffering . Nothing obvious anyway.

MisForMumNotMaid · 21/12/2014 18:30

I'm back up to two out of three. We had an off month with only one of three. The oldest of my girls was a bit hit and miss before the cold weather anyway.

SweepTheHalls · 21/12/2014 18:33

Nada since the clocks changed, weird !

EssexMummy123 · 04/01/2015 21:13

Still at 1 or 2 out of 6 - rest are freeloaders, i'm thinking it might be springtime now before the rest start up again.
