Broody chickens?

How do you know if a chicken is broody?

My friends DD has rescued some battery hens and one of them was sitting on two eggs this morning and won't come out of the shed except to eat and then it's gone back in. The DD said it looked tense!

Any ideas?

TIA

sounds broody - if you remove the eggs every day and pick her up and put her down in front of the food/water she should get over it within a few days 'usually'

Ours tend to spread themselves out so they lookvlike they've been splatted, they make little grumbly noises when you open the nest box and get very cross when you try to move them.

I lift them out of the nest box as soon as I suspect a broody and restrict access to the nest box - usually sorts it out very quickly.
