... of the year in the half made hen house they shelter under.

DH noticed Edna hareing off to it yesterday and went to investigate and found her and 9 eggs on bare wood, obviously padded nest boxes are obsolete Grin

ohh lovely!
I just came on to post about first eggs of the year - mine stopped laying last Nov, then 2 died so only 1 left. She laid on Sun, I got 3 new birds on Mon and old girl has laid every day since :)
So only one a day at the moment but the new girls should be in lay by the end of March and then it will be eggs galore.

My young uns have laid throughout the winter (but they're laying breeds) the pretty ones - the pure breeds, are not laying yet, but today we had a third egg!Grin I suspect Edith or Beth have come back into lay, but many Weeks of careful spying will now ensue

We are getting 2 a day from 3 hens, sometimes 3 eggs, we know who had laid a different shell colours.
