Thinking about chicks :-)

I may have accidentally bid on a mini incubator on ebay - we've had hens for a few years but always POL. Am I missing anything here, purchase fertilised eggs, put in incubator and candle/turn until hatched, leave chicks well alone until fluffed up then put under a heat lamp (or an electric hen??) for a month then start gradually acclimatising them to being outdoors until eventually introducing them to the rest - well the girls at any rate. Any boys may end up living at the bottom of the garden depending on how noisy they are.

Have I missed anything?

You need to feed them chick crumb. And put pebbles in their drinkers so they can't drown themselves.

It's much easier to stick them under a broody hen .....

Aha thanks, good points about the chick crumb and especially the pebbles. Don't currently have a broody hen, I did a few weeks back but she seems to have got past it.

I was thinking about Norfolk Grey's, any other suggestions?
