Is there any way I can keep chickens if my garden is not completely secure?

Hello, this is my first foray onto this board!

We'd really like to keep chickens, and we have space, but I'm worried about foxes. The garden is very wide but not very deep, and the long back boundary is a hedge that backs onto a lane. Very easily accessible! Is it a no-no, wise chicken-keepers?

As long as you shut 'em up at night you should be fine. Depending on how they feel, they may range far and wide during the day ... or they might stay in your garden. If a fox wanted to get at them he would whatever your boundaries were if they weren't shut up properly at night. Hope that helps!

We have 4 chickens. We have a coop with a run, then around that we have an enclosure, which gives them a section of the garden they can roam in. They aren't free range, but they have their own space and they seem happy.
