All my hens are laying!

Yay! I have four. A month ago I was only getting 1 egg a day but now the other 3 have decided to join in.
Never thought they'd start at this time of year - I'd resigned myself to waiting till the spring (and I didn't think the Speckledy was ever going to start given she was 9 months old and hadn't even got a red comb till a few weeks ago).

Now I have discovered someone (probably me ) has thrown away my massive stash of eggboxes.

Hurrah! It is very exciting isn't it. I got my 4 last September. One started laying in November, but we had to wait until mid december for the others. The other morning I opened the egg hatch and there were 4 eggs in it....I was over the moon. We had had 4 eggs in a day before, but not all at the same collection!

I am attempting to not keep popping into the garden to check, so when all 4 lay in the same day I won't get them in dribs and drabs, but it's hard!

I have a problem at the moment, that one sleeps with it's bottom hanging over the edge of the nesting box so the straw is covered in poo in the morning. It is always the same hen! I check when I put them to bed in the evening and she has her head over the box, but she must swap round in the night.

How can I stop it? We get pooey eggs some days if they've laid early.

I don't know. I used to put a football in the nestbox but then sometimes if I didn't get out there early enough they'd lay on the roosting bars and I don't want to risk an egg getting broken. I think it's just one of those things.

Yay! Are you going to sell the surplus?

We just have 2 hens now, one layer, one non-layer.

I think I owe enough people, that I can give them away easily enough.
