Ducks in built up residential areas

Are there any rules on noise for this? We're moving soon and I've always dreamed of having ducks but don't want to pick a house in built up area if I can't. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ring the local council and ask,

and check the property that you are moving to doesn't have any covenants on it, it's quite a common one to put on, no poultry , especially if it is a new house built in the grounds of an old one.

The thing to remember with ducks is that they do make a mess (even more than chickens) and that you will need a clearly defined area for them securely fenced so that cats, urban foxes etc cant get in during the day and a pond of a decent size for them to swim in. you will also need to clip their flight feathers twice a year to stop them flying away. Any complaints to environmental health will be more about the smell and mess than noise as they are a lot less noisy than cockerels. agree with quote and convenants.

We used to have two ducks in a small garden, surrounded by other small gardens, and our neighbours loved them, but that was 30 years ago when people were a bit less moany I think! (also a lot less picky local laws). I imagine you do have to be more careful now.
Agree they can get smelly so you have to keep on top of the cleaning, and although ours had the run of the garden we did have a paved area where we could put them if the weather was very wet, or we wouldn't have had a lawn left. You don't really need a permanent pond for swimming as long as they have a constant supply of clean drinking water. We had a pond for a while but found it got filthy very quickly so on hot days we would just put out a big bowl of water in which they would amuse us all by having a good splash about!
