Hi all thought the girls had lice so went in today to find red mites!!!! Millions ewwwwwww I feel itchy again. Anyway cleaned with poultry shield and new bedding and dust. Got home and stripped off clothes put the straight in the machine and showered washed my long hair very well! But still feel itchy and paranoid so had another shower and washed hair again!!! Confused as have read can live on humans and then can't live on humans just dont know what to think, am so dreading the thought of doing this again next week as I don't want these things in my hair or on dd and the more I think the more I'm sure I feel them, any one had problems with red mite away from chick coop??? As this is common just wondering if they do live on humans????

They will sometimes walk over human skin, and occasionally do an exploratory bite, but they won't infest a human (thankfully!)

If you have an infestation, it's difficult not to get them on you but fortunately they don't stay Smile

Thanks both it's just so horrid! I can't imagine how the poor birds feel!! Have a chemical pesticide ordered so that should do the trick and I plan to wear a shower cap or swimming cap under a woollie hat Sunday! I bet I look stupid as its bound to be roasting hot weather :) but I don't care!!!
