If anyone else uses this to treat for lice, how often do you repeat it and for how long do you withdraw the eggs for?

you can also use fly spray does the same job! poultry breeder we bought our chickens off told us this.

The one thing I've found that treats all sort of lice and mites inc scaley leg mies and worms them at the same time is Ivermectin drops. 7 day egg withdrawal but worth it.

Fly spray is bad for the chickens and won't work on scaley leg mites and I'd be dubious about it working on geeneral lice to be honest.

I've used frontline before for red mite and lice. It works!

Thanks for replies. Bronze - is that spot on or spray?
There's something about Ivermectin that scares me, but i guess if used properly should be ok.
Still interested to know about permethrin though.

I used one ot of spot on. It was either that or she was going to die before I got anything else strong enough so I took the risk. She perked up within the hour. And because it worked then I carried on

What's scary about ivmectin? Genuinely interested, haven't heard anything bad.

Plus I've just ordered some human ivermectin tablets as I read they work well on head lice so thought I'd keep some in just in case.

ditavonteesed · 30/03/2012 20:26

I use jjohnsons powder, I have also used human scabies cream on scaly leg mite, with vaseline.

hiddenhome · 30/03/2012 22:15

Chickens tolerate Ivermectin very well. I use it in spray form for my three. One of mine is sickly and I have to use it every month on her, the others about four times a year with Flubenvet for the worms in between.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/03/2012 14:15

I use Ivermectin and Frontline. Ivermectin is better because it's a wormer too.

Re ivermectin - guess it stems from when i used to work at a vets many moons ago and only had the cattle strength then which was used VERY cautiously on guinea pigs with mites as a last resort, owners had to sign a consent form incase it killed them, guinea pig not owner!! It seems things have moved on since then.
