Could anyone adopt a lonely hen for a few months? (S. Cambs/ N. Herts / Central Beds)

Just a thought ...this is a long-shot and a big ask!

Two of our three hens were taken by a fox yesterday, leaving one poor, lonely hen. Sad

We'd like to get a couple more, but not until we've substantially improved and extended the hens' run, so that we can keep them in all day instead of letting them out to become lunch for a foxes roam . This is likely to take a few months as DH is doing a lot of travelling for work over the next few months and won't get chance to do the work. I'm worried about keeping a lone hen in the meanwhile. I don't want to give her away as she's a family pet... so, I wondered if anyone who lives in the area and keeps hens might have room for one more until September?

Could ask a friend who has 3. We are S Beds if that is any help?

We had a hen on her own (she was called Monday as she flew in on a Monday and never left) because she was the last of the flock - she was quite happy on her own, got all the titbits and was a bit spoilt. If you think you can keep her safe from the fox, might be kinder than putting her in with a bunch of others where she'll be the bottom of the pecking order.

I really didn't expect to have any replies for a few days. Thanks Smile

Thanks very much for the offer, feetheart. I'll see if anyone else who owns hens replies, but if not, maybe you could ask your friend for me? That's very kind.

mistlethrush I'm hearing lots of different things about keeping one hen. Some say it's better than keeping two. Others say it's just too cruel to keep one on it's own.

I'll keep looking!
