Cockerels comb and vaseline

I've heard that some chicken keepers put Vaseline on their cockerels comb to help prevent frostbite.I am a bit worried about my big cockerel with his glorious comb and wondered if anyone had any views on, or experience with, this.

Yes I have heard it works. If I could get near my cockerel I would put it on but he actually really wants to kill me so it is quite tricky even being near him.

He has a tiny comb though so I think I'll leave it.
