Magpies!

Bloody magpies are stealing all our eggs ! After weeks of mystery, it only clicked with us yesterday that it's the magpies. Spent today running up and down to the henhouse like a lunatic in an effort to beat the birds to the eggs. Two strikes for me! So, question is, what can we do to stop them? Help!

My neighbour, Gerald turns up with his traps and decoy birds if there even so much the sniff of a magpie round 'ere.

If you don't have a Gerald then I would try CDs strung up near the henhouse to keep them away or alternatively a mustard filled egg. That'll learn 'em

Thanks MissBeehiving ... don't have a Gerald but we have moved the henhouse, closed the side door of the run where tenet were getting in and are going down about 3 times a day to collect eggs ... The magpies have pretty much stopped ha ging around the food and we've got eggs again! I don't doubt they'm be back so shall bear in mind the mustard filled egg and the CDs!

I hate mpies. A couple of years ago I heard a little birds distress call, the foul creature was hunting sparrows, in my barn :( They take songbird eggs and chicks and are a damned nuisance. We were leant a,trap for chicken egg theif, but sadly only catch the same hen, repeatedly :) , mmm that looks like a good nest, bless, :o
