Gone down the wooden coop route as opposed to Eglu......have I made a mistake?

Well I bought the wooden coop after far too many hours pouring over Ebay and have spent the last couple of weekends painting it in very tasteful cream and sage but am wondering if I should have bitten the bullet and gone for a Eglu? I haven't bought the girls yet so I wouldn't be uprooting anybody.

I am a chicken keeping novice so worries are all about smells, mites, foxes etc etc

Any thoughts or comments gratefully received

You can keep it clean - it just isn't as easy as the Eglu. Use good quality bedding, red mite powder and clean out with poultry shield on a regular basis. Will it be in an aviary or enclosed run? Yes, do make sure it is fox proof and has a lock etc.

I have an eglu and a wooden coop - I am very fussy and I clean out every day. But you will be fine. Sounds lovely colour too!

Hello Punkatheart, I got a coop like the one below, plan on getting 5 chickens and will be fencing off my overgrown but sizeable vegetable patch so they can roam freely in there but not destroy the entire garden.

Think I may finish painting and see if I can sell it on Ebay and then go for an eglu as I would not manage to clean it out every day Blush and worry that they may all start sneezing, get mites or be victim to Mr Fox

It doesn't look difficult to keep clean but I understand. The Eglu is so easy and as a design, it is brilliant. Do be careful to either place it on concrete or put slabs around the run - just to deter Mr Fox.

Good luck! Hen keeping is such good fun and I always recommend the Omlet forum - such friendly people and they will give you a lot of advice.

Thank you for the advice, will have a look on the Omlet Forum.

I've always gone for wooden coops.
I've never regretted it.
