DH has his day off today, and we are having a new chicken coop and run delivered and erected.
don't know if the garden is suitably ready for it, but hey ho!
We haven't yet got the chickens, so there's time to dig skirts and even the ground if necessary.

So excited! Grin

it's been ages since I've been in charge of hens - since I left ex, i've been on visiting only rights, and since he moved out in January, i haven't even seen the old lot. :(

It also means i've had to buy eggs for about a year Shock

Oooh exciting! So how many are you getting then? And what types? Didn't you used to have ex bats? I didn't know you had been without hens for a while so that's lovely news. You will have to keep us updated. I'm trying to plant the seed that I must have a WIR but hubby aint buying it. Grin

OnlyWantsOne · 16/03/2011 11:35

:) wow

my hen house is setting empty at my mums, waiting for me to find a suitable house to have some hens again

nickelbabysnatcher · 16/03/2011 12:19

yes, i did use to have ex-batts.
That was very fulfilling, but incredibly hard work and :( at times. So, one day I will do it again, but for now, we're getting POL hybrids.

DH texted about 10 minutes ago to say they're at the house and setting up! Grin

We've got to wait a few weeks to get the hens (prob long enough for DH to get used to the henhouse blocking his view of the "field" (community greenspace at hte back of the house) Hmm )
And i've checked otu the suplier's website this week, and foudn that the Silverlink breed I wanted isn't being done this quarter. :(
might have to have something else.
i wanted a silverlink because my favourite chicken last time was a silverlink.

see here
DH wants a light sussex, and a bovans nera goes without saying!
I wanted 4, so the brown nick at the top and the Silverlink were going to be the other two.
the replacement breed for the silverlink is the calder ranger at the bottom.

They look lovely. Is there nobody else you can get the Silverlink from? I must admit I'd really like a Light Sussex - there's something really traditionally farmyard about then. So you closing the shop early tonight then? Wink

nickelbabysnatcher · 16/03/2011 15:03

I'm so desperate to close the shop now! Grin

i'm sitting on my hands.

think we might just get three.
get the calder ranger instead of the brown nick, and then the bovans and the sussex.

think that's the best thing to do.

I only want four because I'm paranoid that one will be eaten by foxes and leave 2 (that happened with the last lot, but learned a lesson from that)
three will be fine.
