you'll be able to see the poo better on a painted coop, though - means it'll be easier to clean off! Grin

seriously, though, you shouldn't get poo on the outside of the coop.
have a look on backyard chickens

tehre are hundreds of coops that have been painted in all sorts of ways - i like the ones that look like houses!

We are getting chickens and I've just assembled the coop. Do I need to use a special wood preservative to paint it or is something like Cuprinol ok? I'd just be painting the outside.

LoopyLoopsChupaChups · 02/04/2011 23:18

What kind of paint have you used?

MollieO · 03/04/2011 14:34

Cuprinol garden shades. Found a website selling expensive chicken houses that said they would paint them any colour from this range. Figured it must be ok. It's water based preservative.

MollieO · 03/04/2011 14:35

Sorry just realised that question was meant for the OP!

LoopyLoopsChupaChups · 03/04/2011 18:55

I don't mind who answers it! I used Ronseal Woodlands trust today, and added a little poster paint for colour. Not finished yet, but it's looking much better! Very pleased with my mother's day endeavours!

MollieO · 03/04/2011 19:24

Ours is silver birch roof, lavender walls and sweet pea (pink) inside! The run matches (not the pink though as that would have been OTT)!

LoopyLoopsChupaChups · 03/04/2011 21:14

Sounds amazing! I wasn't going to do inside, but then... Hmmmmm, you've got me thinking now!

Mine is like a beach hut. Pale yellow with light blue roof and detail.

MollieO · 04/04/2011 00:19

Yours sounds great. I thought painting the inside might make it easier to clean out especially if I want to hose it down periodically.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 17/04/2011 17:40

I have bought a vat load of Cuprinol garden shades in the Country Cream. We have a collection of different rabbit/guinea/chicken/quail homes and runs and hoping this will make them all 'match' iykwim?

Just finished quail and piggie, they look rather fetching against the green grass.
