just wondering how old is the oldest hen you know of. One of ours is about 7 and our vet says she is doing very well for her age. All our hens are warrens/hybrids ex battery

There was a trio of pekins in 'Practical Poultry' before Christmas that were 16 years old. Not laying, though. My oldest pekins are coming up to 3, and I hope to have them with us for some time yet

I have a bantie maran who is coming up to 10 this year and she is still laying!

We had a bantam cross, Goldie....we had her a couple of years before we moved here, she was a grown up chicken when we got her, and she died in 2009, so at least eleven.

cats - sorry about Goldie, 11 an amazing age though

ingles - that is amazing

am hoping ours lives a few more years. she was our first hen and is very special - and i never thought i would say that about a chicken!
