One of my chickens has a clear bubbly liquid comimg fron one of her eyes, every time i clear it away it comes straight back. she is eating but looks a bit miserable . I am snowed in so cant get to the vets. I would be grateful for any ideas thanks

Could be an eye infection or a blocked tear duct.

Bathe with warm salted water or boil an apple - complete with rind - let the water cool and bathe with that - if there's bacteria present it will be killed off.

Other than that I don't know what it might be other than an upper respiratory tract infection. Is she wheezing or having breathing problems? Any sneezing?

If it's a sign of something else or a systemtic infection then you'll need some treatment from the vet.

Ask this question on The Poultry Garden forum - the people there are quite knowledgable about medical stuff and might be able to offer more suggestions.

Right, I've just done a search and it sounds like it could be mycoplasma or perhaps coryza, but more likely to be myco. This is treatable with antibiotic - mine was given tetracycline, but you'll need to contact a vet . They can live with it for a little while before it becomes serious, but the rest of the flock are at risk if they're all going around together.

Could you possibly speak to your vet over the phone to describe the symptoms and he could send you the meds through the post or something? post office do a guaranteed next day delivery for about £5

The tetracycline tablets were only about £1.89 for a two week course and I placed each one inside a piece of sweetcorn to feed to the hen.
