Cleaning regime

Hi everyone! What do you do for cleaning your coop/run etc? Here is my routine which so far seems to work fine but I am not sure if it's about right/too little/too much. We are getting through a lot of bedding Smile

We have a plastic house, a long enclosed run and a big free-range enclosure for them which they're let out into when we are at home. They are bedded on wood shavings.

What I do is "poo pick" every day and scoop the evidence out of the henhouse with a spoon. I also have a quick pick of the run and enclosure.

Once a week I take all the bedding out and put it in the compost, sweep out the corners and spray with anti-mite disinfectant. About once a month we pressure wash the house, run and yard.

Does this sound about right to you all?

Thanks, Helen

Perfect to me, a way to happy chickens! Smile

Yes, sounds good. Also, you can get special powders, like biodry or stable dry and I am sure there are others as well which you sprinkle after you have cleaned and before putting wood shavings. They eliminate smells, kill viruses and bacteria. Also, when cleaning once a month I assume you use a strong disinfectant?

yep, sounds perfect.

that's just about exactly what we do. :)

(we use Jeyes fluid as the disinfectant - if you're pressure washing, wipe it all over with a solution of jeyes first, then swoosh it off)

I use a steam cleaner to zap any nasties in the coop.

Some great ideas here, thanks very much!
