Strange chicken egg- has she been eggbound???

Right,
We have 3 ex battery chicks. We have had them for approx 7 months. Two of them have got fatter/better feather / better comb etc. Our third (henny) is as happy as anything but she is a scrawny little thing although we make sure she eats plenty, she does look better than when we had her.
At the beginning they all laid every day. About 4 monts ago Henny stopped laying (apart from one egg). Norma laid Mr whippy eggs that looked like an icecream shape on top ad were a bit thin shelled. Erica has laid every single day. She is our "real" chicken!
First thing this morning before any other eggs were laid there was a VERY strange thing in the nest box. It almost looked like an embryo, was about 10cm lomg (size of there normal eggs)had a little bit of blood by the "head" bit off it and was a whitey colour. When dh touched it (I refused too!) It felt like a hard boiled egg. When we cut it in half it had almost like tree rings through it some slightly darker some not but overall white.
SO,
Does this mean one of our girls has been eggbound?
Are they allright?

It could be a 'lash' which they do every now and again.
Are they going into moult? Mine currently are doing this in relays and stop laying whilst they do this to give their bodies time to make new feathers.
Egg laying equipment can go a bit wonky as they go into and come out of moult. I often find that mine lay softies at this time.

does this help?

Thanks both, yes it does look like that. I think Henny is just going to be an eggless chicken now, but yes Norma is moulting so she might lay again (fingers crossed) although Erica is moulting and laying!
Thisisyesterday- thanks ever so for the link- it does seem like this...unfortunatly most of the time it means that they wont lay again :(
By the loks of it we are now a one egg family!
Thanks again.

our chicken called Erica is a good layer too! (she's not ex-batt though)

ex-batts do normally stop laying earlier than other hens. It's just their breed - they're made to lay more eggs in a shorter period.
our two ex-batts used to lay very weird eggs - Sandra stopped completely, but Rita carried on laying lashes and shell-less eggs until she got egg boundwith a lash and had to have the vet get it out of her (injections, i think it was). then she stopped too.

they're okay in themselves though, just in glorious retirement! Grin
