At the moment my girls have a hen house (1mx1m) and a run attached (2mx1m) But dont panic, they are out from morning to night in the garden Smile

We move in a month or two, theres a shed in decent condition, bout 4mx5m, Ive got my eye on it for the two chickens. Will also be constructing a permanent run, roughly as big again, which will be avairy pannels one side and top, shed one side, willow screening for the remaining two sides, and wire mesh under the floor covering, (not decided what to use yet though.)

So heres my thread. I need inspiration to kit it out to chook heaven. Wonderd if you could give me some bloody good descriptions or load some pictures?

Ladies would you be ever so kind, SHOW ME YOURS

Morning!
I was going to reply last night but has taken me a while to dig out my photos. I think I have managed to put them on my profile. Our chickens are ex batts. We have three. They spend a lot of time free ranging but their run is about the same as yours. We got their hen house off freecycle as it was a huge old rabbit hutch which we converted. dh then made run out of chicken wire from work and would from an old bedframe we were gettig rid of. I painted it. The run has a lift up lid and then a door that opens for the chucks to come out and the house has a little door and a basket for them to snuggle in at night. They refuse point blank to roost on anthing but the basket so we took the roosting pole (I know its not called that but I had a late night and cant remember the name!) out.
Could you maybe see about growing some ivy or a bush or something over/in one corner to gove them a bit of shade.? We have a cover to go over it for rain/sun.
It sounds lovely tho and I think they will be super duper happy. :)

Wow, youve done a fantastic job there, it looks lovely all painted, dont know why but i hadnt thought of painting it, but that would tie it all up nicely - thaks for that.

There is a large, tree/bush type thing - (im not a gardener, can you tell hehe) that will be in the run as its next to the shed at mo and we wont be moving it for a year or two, plenty of branches, i dont think im going to see very much of them once its done, but i recon they will be happy in there Smile Our garden is so small at mo that this full time run will be half the size of what they got now to free range in, but it will all be designed to stimulate them so heres hoping to happy hens.

We did have three btw, but one started cock-a-doodle-doo-ing!So hes a stud on a farm now Smile

It sounds lovely babydubs and I am sure they will love it. I paint everything I can! Treatening to paint the shed but have yet to persuade dh! :)
They will love having a bush in there-I dont know if they are anything like ours but they have made a big ditch under one of our bushes that they love to lie in and dirt bath in.
Just thought of the word- perch!!
One of ours (and they are all definatly girls) cock a doodles when any cat (including our own) goes into the garden! She also does it at the neighbour she doesnt like! Good old Norma.
