Simple electric fence

We are getting chickens in about a week and DH is out in the rain, trying to build a run. We are lucky that the previous owners had sunk concrete and wire in the ground all around an area, so we are putting our run there. We do have foxes in the garden though so we want an electric fence. Some people we went to see had a simple one wire electric fence that was attached to a battery. They said it cost about £60 and most of that was the battery. I've been looking it up and all I can find on the internet are v. expensive chicken electric nets which are over £100.....

Any ideas on how to buy/make/obtain a simple electric wire. We can plug it into the mains as the shed has mains power or use a battery?

HELP......
See you

We recently bought a 50m chicken netting elec fence - used Electric Fencing Online or something. Would recommend. However, no way was it £60 - the battery alone was £72 (9v leisure battery). Ours is similar to that on the Flyte So Fancy website - was over £200 if I remember rightly. Actually, I don't want to remember Grin! This probably isn't much help to you but I don't recall seeing any as inexpensive as your friends told you. Good luck!

I recently bought one from Forsham, who claim to be 'not knowingly undersold' at the moment.

Like Millie, I don't want to even think about how much it cost :o. My chicken start up costs need to be written off!
