Drum roll please!!

Our Buff Orp has laid - woohoo! Honestly, she really took me by surprise (I'd read or heard that Orps are late bloomers and that they often don't start to lay until near the 40 week mark - she's only around 24w) ... anyway, she started to crouch earlier in the week, next day there was a lovely little egg in the nesting box ... and yesterday and today - so three days on the trot. They're teeeeeeny - around 37-39g each. All hardboiled and ready for a salad tonight !

Wow! Bless her! I had heard 40 weeks ish for laying, but a couple of breeders told me 22 weeks onwards. It's so exciting when they lay their first egg!

Not an Orp, but our Cochin seems to be free loading. I don't think she has laid sinc wehavehad her, although she's been in the nest box a few times. Lucky she's so pretty so we let her off!
