Does anyone buy their chicken food on-line?

If so, where do you shop? I'm trying to get the Smallholder range as that's what mine are used to but am finding delivery charges of between £7 and £22 to N. Ireland

Any ideas of where I can try pls?

TIA

Have you tried JW Titmuss? They have v.g. customer service (£7 delivery to mainland GB though - although starts to get cost effective for me if I bulk buy Aubiose at the same time).

What about contacting Allen and Page and see who they supply?

Millie1 · 14/07/2010 22:38

Thanks Salty. Tried Titmuss - as far as I recall (cos I feel like I've called every supplier in the country!), they were charging another £11 for NI delivery - on top of the £7 - yikes! I do have the number for the Allen & Page stockist over here - they sent my last bag down to me for £6/7 delivery - if they did other poultry products it would be more cost effective. They do supply an animal feed store about 20 miles away so I think I'll have to go for that if I want to stick with that food.

Oh, the trouble we go to for them

I feel your pain, delivery to NI is a killer!

We have been getting feed from Pets At Home, but will probably change to whatever our local horse feed place supply soon.

saltyseadog · 14/07/2010 23:07

Ouch at the delivery expenses.

This chicken business is very expensive. DH does an eye roll whenever the chickens are mentioned....so far the eggs must be working out £50 apiece .

Millie1 · 15/07/2010 15:24

Yep Midori ... they seem to 'forget' that, for Royal Mail anyway, it costs exactly the same to post something here as to UK mainland. Grrr. I'll have to be not quite so lazy and just drive the 16 miles if I want to stick to the Smallholder range.

Salty ... I'd a super idea after your last post. I just happen to need Poultry Shield (well, I will after 1 or 2 more cleans). Can't seem to find it here (any ideas Midori?) but FSF charge £11 to send it and for another £5 I can have my bag of food, a 3kg tub of mealworms and a purple spray (though I think that might be cheaper from the Vets)! Does that sound like a bargain?

I've been looking at their chicken coops and thinking of my DSs' Pekins . Did you get your second henhouse sorted?

I have seen Poulry Shield somwhere, it migh have been Jollyes? If I see it again I'll let you know.

We are off to Castlewellan show on Saturday and Willowtree will be there, not sure what products/feeds they do. There will be hens shown as one of 'our' breeders is showing, so it'll be a nice day out.

The chap that made our henhouse does a 4 hen house with run for £155, which would be ideal for Pekins and a bargain, IMO. I am tempted to get one myself and another couple of Bantams, as I am not sure our Araucana girl is going to settle in properly with the LF and I feel so sorry for her. Plus, they are so small, who's going to notice an extra couple...

saltyseadog · 15/07/2010 22:51

4 hen house with run for £155 is bargainous. I searched long and hard for anything like that and couldn't find one .

Millie - that is a bargain. Bite Peck FSF's hand off .

Millie1 · 15/07/2010 22:52

Heavens that is a bargain and no costly delivery charges to pay I'd guess . I think I just read your post on another forum about your Araucana - hope she settles down. We're collecting our Pekins tomorrow evening. Am v. nervous about mixing them straight in with the other girls. Our Sussex is a bit of a stroppy madam and she worries me a bit - she and the New Hamp Red often front up to one another . Watch this space - I might be looking for details for that house - is the guy online?

Shall check Jollyes out thanks - meantime I think I'll place my FSF order.

Everything about them is worrying, isn't it?

Yes, I have just posted about the Araucana on another forum. She's just so tiny!

The chap isn't online, he just builds a few houses from home. The one we have, which is for 6-10 hens and is pretty sturdy tongue and groove was £235, including delivery assembled. He does one the same size with an onduline roof, but ours was prettier... He is in Saintfield, I can try and find his number if that;s within reasonable distance of you? Where are you based?

Millie1 · 16/07/2010 14:45

Thanks Midori ... he sounds really good. We're over near Omagh but don't get me his number just yet or else I might be tempted! I'll give you a shout if we run into diffs in the next day or two - I'd also probably find something closer to home if it's just a small second house. Mind you, I love my FSF heart house!!
