I was driving down a country lane one that I have been driving everyday since last year, the road is 60 I was doing about 50, the csr infront of me stopped suddenly because the car infront of him stopped suddenly and as soon as I saw his break lights I pushed my foot so hard on the break but the car didn't slow down in time and I hit the back of the car very hard, my car is damaged and will be a write off, there was a lady passanger in the back of the car and she was injured she hurt her neck and couldn't move it properly, the ambulance and police came, did a breathalyser which was 0, took my details ans said they would be in touch if they needed anything else. But im feeling so guilty for the women they took her to hospital to be assessed she got out of thr car with help ans they put her in the ambulance with a red box thing round her head, I cant sleep properly or eat much and I just keep replying over and over in my mind , im so worried about her ans I dont even know how she is, and I dont know what's going to happen to me with the police, and im also scared to drive again

You don’t deserve anything bad. You are not a bad person, accidents happen xx

Exactly. Honestly, OP, I kind of wish my mother’s horrible husband, who got blind drunk and attempted to drive home, taking out several road signs en route and lodging himself in a bush on a roundabout, felt half as bad about what he did as you seem to feel about this. It’s not going down as one of your life’s highlights, I’m sure, but it doesn’t sound like it was the result of recklessness.

I dont care about that the most important thing for me is that the women is okay

I am sure the women is fine. Please OP accidents do happen. Whether you were driving a bit close or didn’t press the brake enough it happens. You really need to accept it wasn’t great but it will be okay.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:38

My car is automatic so I just have to press the break only , awww I'm hat those country roads I have to go down them every nigth and I see so many rabbits ans stuff

Also had you been drinking and are you drinking now as your partly use of the brakes and all the errors in your posts are concerning

Lol shut up

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:40

No in dont I haven't done anything bad in my life but I have bad luck all my life it was only 6 years ago I really started enjoying and living my life when I met my husband , and we were just about to buy American fridge freezer but that will have to wait now

Natsku · 05/09/2026 20:40

Please don't be too hard on yourself, this was an accident, you are not to blame.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:42

Yeah i know thankyou

You were obviously too close behind. Stopping distances exist for this reason. My partner was rear ended in December, right before Christmas, and it nearly ruined our upcoming holiday. Well it did to an extent as he was having to take and make all calls related to the crash while we were away.

The woman who did it said she "knew" she was too close, and she "just didn't think". Well get off the fucking road then before you kill someone.

No sympathy with people who rear end.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:43

Oh dear I dont understand why people get in cars when they have been drinking , I could never qoukd rather pay for a taxi

Why are you asking if the OP had been drinking? Why are you trying to make her feel worse? She blew zero. It is in the first post.

I asked because people do not always tell the truth and her response to me below:
No inwaa not drinking they did a breathalyser test there and then it as 0, ans im not drinking now I dont really drink only on special occasions.I pressed the break as i seen ahead of me the break light which was quite far away, then I pushed rigth to the floor
This response, as well as most of her posts on this thread, are full of errors as though she is drunk.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:44

Okay thanks

You have insurance. Report all details to your insurer immediately to be indemnified.
Seek medical attention for yourself plus a follow-up to confirm you are ok (if you are) and report that to your insurance company.
Don't neglect your own health. Symptoms from soft tissue injuries can take time to appear.

You rear-ended the car in front of you because you were following too closely.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:45

Im not drunk I am just typing fast as I have lots of comments that I want to respond to and and anway if I am drinking what's the problem I am in my home I would never drink ans drive and the breaghlyser was 0 on the scene of the accident

StolenTeapots · 05/09/2026 20:47

Hope you are ok

Lostinbrum · 05/09/2026 20:47

Dont be so hard on yourself it was an accident and you were remorseful and had insurance. Better then being slammed up the back end by some arrogant twat with no licence or insurance. Nobody died.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:48

Yes it was a accident i wasent driving carelessly or aggressively i do that route every day but on that day I just went straight into the back of him

Honestly I’ve had to pay for an ambulance following a collision. They send the bill to the person they think most at fault. Maybe that wasn’t you even if you called them?

Where are you? Not in UK presumably

Gobbledegoo · 05/09/2026 20:51

You might have been too close on a narrow road plus pushing the brake pedal too hard isn't the way to go. Pumping the brake pedal is the best thing to do. Practice it on a road with no other cars around when you get another car. This is all part of life's experiences and hopefully the injured party will recover.

Don't keep playing the situation in your head. If you have Fully Comprehensive insurance (which hopefully you have) say you need Therapy (claim nightmares as this is true) otherwise it could affect you now and in the future, i.e. not sleeping, sitting in driving seat, being a passenger. I only know about this because I became an awful passenger years later. Insurance is for both parties even if you are at fault.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:51

Yes that's very true

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 19:51

Yeah your right and obviously I wasent driving dangerously or anything like that and I didnt mean to do it, I would never want to hurt anyone or cause injuries to anyone, yes this will be in my mind for life I will leave so much space infront of me now even more then I should as I never want anything like that to happen again.

Well by driving at 50mph without a big enough breaking distance you were driving dangerously unfortunately.

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:54

Okay when I get another car i will try that, I feel okay phiscally but my neck hurts a bit and its a bit stiff , im not getting enough sleep but hopefully in time I will feel better

OP posts:
kiwiane · 05/09/2026 20:55

It’s okay and you can learn from this and keep your distance in future.
You need to get busy and stop ruminating over this accident; it will be sorted by your insurance company and worrying now isn’t helping anyone.
Many of us have an accident at some time, that’s why we have insurance, be kind to yourself - imagine how you’d treat a friend of yours if this happened to them.

dimples76 · 05/09/2026 20:56

@missymoomel try and be kinder to yourself. We all make mistakes. I have been driving for over 20 years and up until this Summer had not been involved in an accident that was my fault. I know what you mean about replaying it over and over - and wishing you could turn back time.

In fact, I did the same for a previous accident that was more serious and needed emergency services. The wife of the driver blamed me for the accident which shook me. Even though witnesses and the police all said it was his fault I could not help replaying it and reconstructing it with friends and family (often using salt and pepper pots). I was fortunate that they humoured me with this and it helped me work through it.

All you will need to pay us the excess on your insurance so don't worry about the cost of everything. It's been about a month since my accident. Now I have paid the excess and have my car back I have managed to move on. The first time I drove after the accident I was in pain afterwards as I was so tense. I try to keep reminding myself that I am generally a good, safe, considerate driver but I had a momentary lapse of concentration.

Honestly this happend 2 days ago and I have not stopped crying everytime I think about it I cry and when I close my eyes I keep replying it in my mind, I went to work today ans I was just not with it.Im not sure if my car has ABS or not its a 2008 plate but I cant belive my car was damaged so bad and the car infront was just the bumper hanging off but im glad his car was not very badly damaged

For this reason OP, you're going to be a very careful driver going forward - you care.
Please don't beat yourself up endlessly, they're called accidents for a reason. Get the garage to check the brakes for any issues, any chance you pressed down on the clutch too early too?

missymoomel · 05/09/2026 20:56

Yes I know this, but I wasent doing 50 at that time obviously but I know what your saying if I wasenr doing 50 it might of been less then that actually then I would of had time to stop properly
