Rear ended someone and im so worried and scared

I was driving down a country lane one that I have been driving everyday since last year, the road is 60 I was doing about 50, the csr infront of me stopped suddenly because the car infront of him stopped suddenly and as soon as I saw his break lights I pushed my foot so hard on the break but the car didn't slow down in time and I hit the back of the car very hard, my car is damaged and will be a write off, there was a lady passanger in the back of the car and she was injured she hurt her neck and couldn't move it properly, the ambulance and police came, did a breathalyser which was 0, took my details ans said they would be in touch if they needed anything else.But im feeling so guilty for the women they took her to hospital to be assessed she got out of thr car with help ans they put her in the ambulance with a red box thing round her head, I cant sleep properly or eat much and I just keep replying over and over in my mind , im so worried about her ans I dont even know how she is, and I dont know what's going to happen to me with the police, and im also scared to drive again

I know it was a accident, but I feel terribly guilty over this, the family member took my details and i asked him to let me know how she is but he never did which makes me wonder if shes not good.I hope she is though

theres mothing more you cN do accidents happen to everyone if you drive enough miles. It’s probably whiplash hopefunot that serious. Why not call police and try and find out try and put ypur mind at rest. It could have been a lot worse. Maybe try phoning a counseling helpline if have one through work. You can only learn from this dont best yourself up.

Im not sure about counselling through work i would have to ask, i could ring the police and ask but I don't know if I can because I'll proberly end up crying down the phoned Hopefully she is okay though

The point made was that OP would receive a bill for the ambulance - I said she wouldn't as it doesn't happen
She will not get a bill sent to her - it doesn't happen in the UK - insurers may pay all sorts, but OP will not get a bill for an ambulance

Potentially, if the defendant insurer fills in the CRU1 incorrectly, with the OP's name instead of her insurer's, then she would get the NHS certificate. However, she should direct this to her insurer if this happens. (And it might, as some defendant reps are thick as two short planks.)

This is extremely common and accidents happen all the time.

Try not to beat yourself up. That's what your insurance is for! Everyone is a bit shaken up by a road traffic accident. It's upsetting for all involved including whoever is deemed at fault.

I've dealt with far worse scenarios and serious injuries. It's just a bit of bent metal at the end of the day. As long as everyone is alright that's all that matters.
Let your insurer do their job and handle it all.

It sounds like you might benefit from speaking to a counsellor about it to help you move past it.

Thankyou Yeah I know accidents happen all the time and it could of been more very bad, my car was very badly dented at the front it looks really bad and will proberly be written of for sure as its very old aswell, but I dont care about the car or about my premiums going up at renewal (god knows how much that will be) my main concern is the women and that she is okay I mean she did get out of the car with help but she hurt her neck and couldn't move very well ans went to hopsital most proberly for xrays etc, I have no way of knowing shes is okay and is recovering at home.I hope she is though , I think in time I will be okay and my brain will tell me its okay it was a accident I didnt do it on purpose etc, but even still im feeling bad.But im sure I will get over it

This happened to me, it turned out my abs pump was completely knackered I missed crashing into someone by about an inch despite being a safe distance from them and stopping within a reasonable time. Didn’t find out until it had a mot and then that explained it!

Oh dear yeah cars are scary I read a story once where a women's break stopped working and that must of been terrifying for her

If their car wasn't too badly damaged then it's probably unlikely that she was badly hurt. I think a lot of people possibly wouldn't get in touch to re-assure a stranger, they wouldn't think it necessary. But what you are experiencing is the reason I did get in touch with the driver that caused my DM accident as I didn't want a decent person worrying unnecessarily.
If it happened in a smallish community could you maybe pop a post on the local FB page? You might get a response.

No there car it was just the bumper hanging off from what I saw but I was so emotional when I got until i left I didnt really look to much but it was the bumper from what I remember, but i did hit quit hard well it felt like hard anyway, and my car looks horrid, I could put a post on the local page but I dont want them to feel uncomfortable or pressured into letting me know, they clearly dont want too even though I did ask so many times to thr family member please let me know shes okay but maybe they canr because they will be doing a injury claim.But yeah i would do the same if it was me that got injured I would proberly try and reach out just to let them know I was okay sns dieing or dead etc just to stop them worrying at home.

Did the car in front of you hit the car in front of them - the one that they braked suddenly for ?

I would guess if the injured passenger died, that the police would inform you as surely it then becomes a bit more than just you going into the back of their car.

Furthermore I would not be reaching out to anyone asking for information on how the passenger is, you need to work on the thought that the neck brace was a precaution AND any injury she does or does not have could be the result of the car she was a passenger in braking hard to avoid the car in front of them or even hitting the car in front as you haven't said if it was hit too.

Gently, you do need to get a grip. It was an accident. She got out the car. She may have whiplash but going over and over it is doing you no good.

She was sat in the back of the car so its worse for her

Yeah i know i do need to get a grip , and stop going over i keep trying to tell my mind that.Now juay need to find a car and gently get back to driving

It's possible your brakes weren't at their most efficient. If you don't have the car regularly serviced, it may be you have worn discs and/or pads, which can make them less effective. The insurance assessors may examine your car to check this.

I have the car serviced every year or sooner if needed, maybe they will yeah i dont understand what happens when copart take the car they will look at the car to see if its more costly to repair and thrn just write it off and also look at the damages too

I live rurally and drive on country lanes all the time. It is worth remembering that speed limits are just that and not an instruction to do that speed! I think some of the limits on country lanes are too high.
It is likely that the lady in the back of the car is OK.. the neck collars are often just a precautionary measure.
It is scary when things like that happen but it does sound as though everyone has got off quite lightly.
Country lanes are really difficult as people do drive far too fast on them.

Yeah I know i wasent doing the maximum speed limit for that road, I've been driving on that road everyday since last year and I've never had a problem.I was just unlucky on that day that it happen unfortunately, if anything comes from this it will be learning from it, being more cautious and alert etc.Yes I do hope the lady is okay

And yes I agree the speed limits on the cointry roads are ridiculous, I dont know how anyone can go at the top speed

and you say all the advisories re the MOT were done ?

so depending on how long ago the service and MOT were, you could be confident that the brake pads etc are not worn etc.

Hope you’ve managed to ease your angst since your little prang. Yes - it was your fault. Guess what - we all make driving errors every single time we get behind the wheel. You had a moment’s lapse of concentration- bang. Be thankful it’s nothing more than your conscience which has taken a beating. You didn’t MEAN it. So let the insurance companies sort things out. That’s what you pay all those ridiculously high premiums for. And be ready for a real ‘ouch’ when your next renewal invitation arrives. You’ll very likely feel a bit more sorry for yourself than you do for the woman with the red thing round her neck. Her phone as we speak probably contains half a dozen messages from solicitors ready to milk your insurance company for a small fortune. So have a sympathetic {hug} - then get back behind the wheel as soon as you can.
