Recommendations for reliable family SUV

Does anyone have any good recs for a good family SUV? I have 3 children, all in car seats. My eldest would sit in the front with me, so not really bothered about fitting all of them in the back. I’m looking for reliable with decent boot space. I’m going to have to get it on PCP, max price £350 per month. What cars do people have that are good?

Hybrid, electric, petrol or diesel?

Thatgirlcat · 27/04/2026 14:34

I don’t mind, as long as I don’t have to charge it

We had a Peugeot 3008 and a 5008. They are roomy, reliable and nice to drive. They are almost identical but 5008 has a much bigger boot. That said, the 3008’s boot was fairly roomy.

Please don't buy an SUV. Not only are there more injuries to others in accidents involving SUVs, they are more risky for people inside the car. They are crushing our infrastructure (bridges, car parks etc), use excess fuel Vs standard cars, and are a danger to children when drivers can't see them over the huge bonnets.

so you do mind, then, not electric!
A diesel is only worthwhile if you do high mileage.

No, don’t mind. Just want something big enough and reliable for a family

We always had a VW Touran (7 seter) when DC were little. Big enough to fit everyone in incl their friends. But small enough to drive around town.
We now have an ID3 that is very similar...

I’ve just changed to a Volvo xc60 - best thing I’ve ever done. Plenty of room inside!

Just bought a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid/petrol. Personally, I love them, its my second one.

My Skoda Karoq is lighter than my friend's Nissan Leaf and is more fuel efficient than the Vauxhall Zafira it replaced.

Car reliability is pretty good across most brands these days with a few exceptions, but to help steer you in the right direction it would be helpful to know:

Anual Milage?
Do you do mainly short journey's <5 miles
Dog now or in the future?
Do you care about image / brands?
What dealers are near you?
How do feel about "modern car tech"?

We have a dacia jogger hybrid. Not an suv but it does have 7 seats and is the same footprint as a standard saloon so easy to park. I have been very impressed with it. Ridiculously easy to drive. Very fuel efficient. We had a shithole for our last car though so i may have a low bar for a good car.

They’re actually SAFER for the occupants inside the car, and when you’re choosing a save vehicle for your own family, that’s the priority.

Been thinking either Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage. I know they are basically the same thing anyway. I love the Volvo XC60, but way too pricey for me.

That didn’t take long.
