Roads are being “fixed” and failing again within months while we pay for the damage. We can sit and wait for the road to be re laid but I personally have seen the same holes filled 15 times in five years on my road

This petition calls for a 2-year guarantee on roadworks so they fix it properly the first time.

Petition: Require contractors to guarantee all roadworks for 2 years

I call on the UK Government to require a two-year guarantee on all roadworks by contractors and utility companies. Any defects such as sinking, cracking or potholes within that period must be repaired at their expense to protect taxpayers and improve s...

It's a pointless petition. Some road repairs are in situations where no repair will last that long.

We have a north facing hill road in our village, with a level bit half way up. The water pools there and freezes into any minor cracks, expanding and forcing a repair to crumble.

The only thing that will solve it is a complete resurface with a more extreme camber to ensure the water drains off immediately.

We have another road that has a spring under it during wet winters. That will only be solved with a culvert under the road - priced at £78k for a c road so no chance.

Reality is inconvenient, I know.

I completely agree that some roads have underlying issues that need bigger solutions like drainage or full resurfacing.

This petition isn’t about those cases it’s about the many repairs that fail due to poor workmanship or short term fixes, even where proper repairs would last.

A 2 year guarantee would simply mean contractors are responsible for the quality of their work. Where conditions genuinely make that impossible, that can be accounted for but at the moment there’s very little accountability when repairs fail quickly.

It’s about raising standards overall, not ignoring complex cases.

We’d spend all our time and money arguing about whether a case falls into one of the ‘exceptions’. Potholes appear in heavy use locations. We’re also driving heavier cars.

We’d be better off ensuring the council have more people available to fill them as they develop.
